As people explore BDSM and their sexuality, they will begin experimenting with toys and accessories. This is entirely normal and natural; we all tend to jump in headfirst when we discover something new that we really enjoy or want.

There are many floggers to choose from, and some are reasonably priced while others are shockingly expensive. I don’t mind paying more for an item that I will be using for many years to come; however, I always start off with cheaper items to test beforehand. Pointless sitting with a $1 000 whip that you will never use because you realized you don’t enjoy being whipped.

When it comes to buying floggers, it is always best to do a little research beforehand. What colors do you want your flogger/s to be? The most popular colors are red and black or a mixture of both. You will also need to know what material you want and what kind of sensation you are after. So let’s look at how to choose floggers.

What is a flogger? A flogger consists of falls; these are the strands of leather or other types of material attached to the handle. The handle is called a hilt, which is usually wrapped in leather for a firm grip. A ball will separate the falls from the hilt with an additional ball at the end called a pommel, and pommels typically have a loop or ring so that you can hang the flogger when it is not in use.

There are two sensations associated with flogging, a thud or sting. You can buy different floggers for either sensation.

Therefore, Suede floggers are softer, offering more of a thud than a sting, whereas oiled leather floggers are stiffer, so they will definitely sting a lot more during the flogging. You can choose between either or buy a flogger that has suede and oiled leather falls. The width of the falls will also determine the sting, a narrower fall will give more of a sting, and wider falls will thud more on impact. It is entirely up to you what you prefer, but it is essential to understand what sensation you are after. The number of falls will also affect the impact; fewer falls will be more stingy, whereas many falls will give a better thud sensation.

When deciding to buy floggers, always read the reviews on the products. People will often discuss the quality and effect the product has sensation-wise. Storage of floggers is essential; more expensive floggers will either need to be laid flat or hung as the falls need to be straight. Floggers also need conditioning, especially if it is more costly materials like leather. Leather can easily crack if not cared for correctly, and the flogger will then be ruined.

Even though floggers can be expensive, I would not recommend sharing a flogger between partners. During the flogging, your partner might have minor skin lacerations that might bleed a little this can easily be sterilized afterward. Still, for everyone’s safety, it is best not to share floggers among partners.
