Figging is something I came across several years back and must admit; I can not be arsed 😊 to stick a piece of ginger in my sphincter. LOL, that being said, many people enjoy it and use it often in their scenes.
Figging was created initially as a form of punishment, and it was originally used on females slaves in Ancient Greece. The female slaves were restrained to prevent any movement during the punishment to experience the extreme discomfort of figging. Figging, also originally called feaguing, was also used on horses to force them to lift their tails and appear more lively; in some cases, they used a live eel; WTF, at least, it was stopped because it is animal cruelty.
These days figging is used as a form of sensational play, and I’m sure as punishment in some cases. The figging process requires you to carve a fresh piece of ginger, remove the skin, and expose the flesh of the ginger. You typically carve it to the shape of a butt plug with a tapered entry point and a larger flange at the end so that it doesn’t get lost. LOL, I would love to see someone talk themselves out of such a situation at the ER.
It is claimed that it takes anywhere between two minutes and five minutes for the sensation to take effect once the ginger has been inserted and can last up to thirty minutes. Figging is not just limited to the anus; it is also used in the vagina or urethra. People have also used different food items such as garlic, hot peppers, and cinnamon. Other oils are used like peppermint oil and chili oil, even the likes of Tobasco sauce can be incorporated into your sensation play.
Some people might question why people do this, and I would never kink shame, anyone. We all have different kinks, and we all like different things. Figging can cause a warm tingly sensation that many people enjoy and crave.
Figging can also be a part of impact play; if you are being spanked or flogged and have a clenching habit. Figging can be used to force a submissive not to clench their buttocks, therefore, absorbing more of the punishment. If you clench, you will have a more extreme figging sensation. This way, you are giving the submissive a choice of two evils.
If you are going to try figging, start off slow and maybe use a small test piece to see your tolerances. Make sure the figging piece is smooth without any edges that might cause injury. It takes a few minutes for the sensation to kick in, so try a little at a time. Many people believe lube should be used; however, this might affect the desired figging sensation; that is your call.
Remember to wash your hands as ginger can burn like a bitch if you touch your eyes, also very important to make sure your partner does not have a food allergy to any of the items you will be using.
